Believe in Heros

Yesterday, on September 11, 2017, I enjoyed the day on Lake Erie perch fishing with my wife Linda and four buddies from my day job. The day was as gorgeous as they come with a beautiful sky, a great lake rocking the boat relaxingly, and sharing it with good companions and family. All was great except for a dark cloud that kept passing across my mind

– it was the sixteenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In between catches of perch and passing jokes around the boat of comrades, a scene from that crushing Tuesday of 9-11-2001 would flicker a display in my mind’s eye.

This blog posting’s photo is a view of the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville PA, under construction. As I visited the site while on a writing assignment several years ago, I was overcome by a sense of pride, appreciation, anger, and sadness. The day I was there the sky was a deep, beautiful blue. It reminded me of the beautiful and deep devotion the Americans that died on September 11, 2001 had for their families and their country.

I’ll never forget. God bless America.
